Site Drainage Inspections - Are they worth it?

Just recently, we received a call from a homeowner who had flooding issues around their home. They received several bids to install a french drain system which was in excess of $5,000. Fortunately, one of the contractors mentioned that they should ask a hydrologist / civil engineer and that was where we came in. After an on-site investigation, we diagnosed the problem - a downspout discharging in their front landscape bed, which trapped the water and was causing the flooding. The fix - to reroute the downspout and discharge point, in addition to a couple of other site modifications. The cost of these fixes, under $1,000. So, was it worth it to the homeowner to call?

Many times, we (including myself) think we can save money by doing it ourselves. This type of thinking is what gets us all in trouble, especially when the "little" project becomes an overwhelming project, costing 4x the expected budget. There are times when calling in a professional for recommendations and for contractor leads, will pay dividends to your pocketbook. It may seem a bit expensive at first, but at the end the savings will reward you.

So, are site drainage inspections worth it? Is saving your money worth the investment in asking the professional?

TEP provides site drainage inspections. We are here to solve your problems in the most cost efficient means possible.
